The Sky is the Limit

The Sky is the Limit

Seconds, hours, so many days
You know what you want, but long can you wait?
Every moment last forever
When you've lost your way.

What if my chances were already gone?
I started believing that I could be wrong
But you gave me one good reason
To fight and never walk away

So here I am, still holding on

With every step, you climb another mountain
Every breathe, it's harder to believe
You'll make it through the pain, weather the hurricanes
To get to that one thing

Just when you think the road is going nowhere
Just when you almost gave up on your dreams
They take you by the hand and show you that you can
There are no boundaries 2x

(No Boundaries, Kris Allen-from the American Idol Season 8)

No boundaries from Kris Allen has been accompanying me for the past few days. While I’m writing, I’m listening this song through the youtube website. Over and over again. My type of song-listening, until I get bored :)

Going through every word of it, I found a new strength. Really, this life is actually no boundaries. Only sky is the limit. Too often we’re the one who sets the limit. Yes, we’ve got limitations, but if only we believe that it’s also possible to see the beauty of our dreams, then we’ll get the strength to move on. To carry on. To walk with whatever strength that we’ve got. Maybe sometimes we walk in a normal pace, while at the other time we run like a sprinter. And at another time, we just couldn’t even walk. We just crawl so slowly, like a baby who has just learned how to crawl. But, one thing is for sure: we need to walk and never stop. I’ve learned not to let anything or anyone to set a boundary for me. While at the other time, I’ve also realized that too often I make my own boundaries. Here, inside my mind, within my thoughts, I’m too scared to let it happen. So, I kept saying that, “ It’s impossible.”

Really? Is that so? The other side of my heart asking a completely different question compared to the first thought that popped up in my mind. While I’m still busy with the two poles of my thoughts, suddenly Kris Allen sang again, “ Just when you think the road is going nowhere. Just when you almost gave up on your dreams…. There are no boundaries!!! Yeaaaahhh”

Thanks, Kris, for your gentle reminder with such a strong message…No boundaries, yeah!

Edison Chen in Asia Uncut-Star World, 17 Jan 2010

Well, I’ve just pressed my remote unintentionally to this channel and listened to what he said. After his big scandals-sex scandals- in Hongkong around 2 years ago, he made a come back in the international music and film. But still refused to go back to Hongkong. For those who don’t know what exactly was happening at that time, I found some information from Wikipedia for you:

In January 2008, Chen was involved in a widely publicized sex scandal when sexually explicit nude photographs of himself taken four years earlier became widely circulated on the Internet. Celebrities implicated in the scandal included Gillian Chung, Bobo Chan, Mandy Chen,Candice Chan, Rachel Ngan , Cecilia Cheung, and Maggie Q. Nude photos of Edison's current girlfriend, Vincy Yeung, were also made public and the future of the relationship is in doubt.

Hong Kong police have stated that they confiscated a collection of sex-related photos that involve 6 other identifiable females and other unidentifiable males.

Initially the authenticity of the photos was denied, and digital manipulation was used as the primary explanation for the pictures. However, Hong Kong police and Photoshop experts argued that the photos were in fact real and not digitally altered. This brought about a serious reaction towards all parties involved in the scandal. As a result, Chen indirectly admitted his role and expressed remorse and subsequently announced his indefinite departure from the Hong Kong entertainment industry at a press conference. (Wikipedia)

The reporter was asking Edison about his feeling of being accused either as a villain or a victim in this case. Yes, the laptop was misplaced and the data that contained those pictures were stolen. But, the fact is that he has done a really ungraceful thing. More importantly, those girls in his pictures are famous artists or singers from Hongkong And that was it… It was a big issue in 2008.

But then, eventually, he’s back. He told the reporter that, “ What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger.” Again, I was impressed by these words. Well, he made a mistake. A HUGE one. But then, he admitted and did something about it. Even though the result isn’t really clear at this moment, but at least he has learned his lesson (based on his conversation with the reporter). Well, I do hope that Edison can really make a sincere change and turn over a new leaf. A better one, for sure. One thing that I bear in mind that people can make mistakes, big ones, even huge ones. The ones that seemed unforgettable and unforgivable. But hey, really! Whatever doesn’t kill you will make you stronger. You’ll have a brand new day, a brand new opportunity to learn something from this life and become a better person. A better you.

Last but not least: Joshua Allen, the winner of So You Think You Can Dance Season 4

From an amateur street dancer who specialized in a kind of hip hop dance, Joshua broke all the tradition of So You Think You Can Dance, by becoming the top 2 in the competition. Both dancers in the top 2 were all street dancers. But amazingly, through out the process of practicing, being choreographed by wonderful and world class choreographers, here’s the good news… He’s the winner.

Shortly after winning his title, with tears on his eyes, he said something that I’d like to quote and remember as a reminder of my own self and I’d like to share with you too!

Never let anybody tell you that you can’t do anything. Only sky is the limit. God is in control and with GOD you can do ANYTHING.

Amazing! Because we often think that it’s almost impossible to achieve something big. While thinking of our past or looking at our present situation, we begin to doubt our future. Our logic says: if this is the case, so that will be the result. It’s our own reasoning. But, Joshua has reminded me that only sky is the limit. And by remembering God is in control, we’ll be less arrogant and realize without Him we are meaningless. With Him we can live a life to the fullest. If He wants to, nothing is too hard to do. If He wants to, impossible is nothing. If He wants to, He’ll always have a way to help us get through it. He’ll empower us. Just surrender to Him and let Him know our dreams, then you’ll be amazed by His beautiful ways that He has planned for you in reaching your dreams.

Keep dreaming, keep believing, and keep praying. Really, only sky is the limit!!!

Never Too Old

Never Too Old

Last night I watched America’s Got Talent. Actually this show has already completed its sessions in season 4 in the US. But since I watched it from the local TV here in Singapore (Channel 5), so I only watched until the semi-finals. I was amazed, stunned, with Grandma Lee. She’s full of confidence, even though she’s 75 years old. And she doesn’t seem scared to let her dreams flow. Even for some people, she might be in the last part of her life. The last 5 years, 10 years, no one knows exactly, right? Here’s a little bit of her biography:

Grandma Lee, now age 75, was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1934. After graduating from Otterbein College in Ohio, Grandma Lee married a Marine, Ben Strong, and spent the next 20+ years raising their four children and traveling the world. As her kids grew up, Grandma Lee from "America's Got Talent" worked a series of jobs, including newspaper reporting and operating for directory assistance. In May 1995, Grandma Lee lost her husband to cancer. To help her cope, Grandma Lee from "America's Got Talent" began attending a local comedy workshop. Since then Grandma Lee has been making people laugh all around the country. Grandma Lee's goal on "America's Got Talent" is to help older people realize that it's never too late to follow your dreams—and laugh!

I like the quotation above: It’s never too late to follow your dreams. That’s amazing. While some of us dying already inside our mind, thinking that we may never reached our dreams even though we’re in our 20s, 30s, or mid 40s, but Grandma Lee shows us how. For me, Grandma Lee has already become a winner. It doesn’t really matter if she didn’t win the competition. In my heart, in many people’s heart, she’s a winner. And she’s always be.

It’s not easy to stay motivated all of the time. It’s not easy to get back on the track after several failures. But, as long as we live, we need to keep on dreaming. As long as we have this breath, as long as we have the chance to open our eyes each morning, we should’ve realized that we need to have some courage in this life. Courage to stand up once again even though we’ve fallen so often. Courage to stay positive and happy even though the reality is really bitter. Courage to keep on dreaming, be the best that we can be, become the person that we’ve dreamed all this time. Pursuing our dreams, pursuing our passion. Never give up on it, even though it seems that there’s no significant improvement or progress in reaching it.

Oh, Grandma Lee, I just realized that the moment that we stop dreaming, it’s actually the time when we’re dying inside. And it’s really pitiful that some of us has already been dying in a very young age, due to the worries, anxiety, fear… Due to the restriction of becoming the best that we could.

But God has put the passion inside our heart. Each one of us. To reach the dreams. To stretch ourselves to the highest level in Him. Only sky is the limit. No limitation in Him. We can grow, we can walk, we can run, we can fly in Him. We can soar up high and reach our dreams. Even though it seems that the obstacles are piling up, filling every step of our way… But, as long as we focus on it… There’s nothing impossible.

Never too late, never too old… Even if God wants something to happen, He’ll do it anyway. It just reminds me of the story of Sarah, the wife of Abraham which thought that she’s too old for conceiving a baby. And eventually we can see that she could have a baby.

Never too late, never too old… We only need to believe in God with all of our heart. While at the same time, we need to work hard, need to give our best shot. Everyday… Each second of our life…

So, when the time comes, we’re ready to receive it… All the preparation made complete by us in Him… in His time…

Grandma Lee, thanks for your inspiring-eye opener-story…

In the Traffic Light of Life

Passing a traffic light today…
It’s not an unusual thing…
Very natural.. Very normal…
Maybe you’ve passed the traffic lights thousands of times in your life
So, it’s not a really special experience
And easily forgotten.

But today, the traffic light has taught me something
It’s just a reflection inside of my mind…
Very simple but yet I wanted to share it with you…

Traffic light has got 3 colors…
Red…
When you need to stop…
There are times in life when you have to stop doing something
Maybe because it’s too dangerous
Maybe it’s just so tempting but at the same time
So sinful
So, you need to stop
You need to say NO.
There are a lot of things that need a firm and strong faith
By refusing it.

Yellow…
When you need to be cautious…
Again, there are moments in life that you need to put some extra care
That you need to put more caution into it
Because it might have a different impact in your life
So, when you face the problem, you need to be cautious
Slow down and think
What to do in the next step…

Green…
There are moments that you need to strive and run for it
Walk with a very high spirit
To reach your dreams…
To reach your expectations…
To strive for your goals in this life…
To be what you want to be…
Only sky is the limit…
And when you see the green light
You just know that you need to run
Run for your goal
Search for something better…

Facing the traffic light of your life…
Whether it’s red, yellow, or green…
Hopefully you can choose the right attitude towards life
In facing :
Each problem…
Each trouble…
Each trial…
Each opportunity…
Each dream…
Each goal…
Each struggle…
With all your heart focused on faith
And believe…
Even though in which stage of the traffic light of your life
You are not alone…
He is there for you
And will never leave you

Red, yellow, or green?
It doesn’t really matter
As long as you’ve got faith in Him.

* inspired buy a normal and not-so-special traffic light, only to find that there are some deep meanings too…
